Adiyogi Angavastram Black Cotton Shawl
*Angavastram ISHA
Soft and elegant, Adiyogi Angavastram is a black cotton shawl dedicated to Shiva, the source of yoga, or Adiyogi. Its border is decorated with the words "Aum Adi Yogishwaraya Namah" written in calligraphic gold letters. Worn during Sadhana and Adiyoga Pradakshina, it reminds us to be wrapped in the grace of Adiyoga.
The meaning of Adiyoga – the first yogi.
When we say "Shiva," we mean a certain yogi, Adiyogi, or the first yogi, and also Adi Guru, the first Guru, who is the basis of what we know today as the science of yoga. Yoga doesn't mean standing on your head and holding your breath. Yoga is a science and technology that allows us to learn about the essential nature of how life arises and how it can be brought to its ultimate potentiality. This first transmission of yogic teachings took place on the shores of Kanti Sarovar, a glacial lake a few miles outside Kedarnath in the Himalayas, where Adiyogi began the systematic introduction of this internal technology to his first seven disciples, known today as Sapta Rishi.
